چکیده
ENETICALLY controlled differences in the p-globulins of British breeds of Gdairy cattle have been described by SMITHIES and HICKMAN (1958) and ASHTON (1958). GIBLETT, HICKMAN and SMITHIES (1959) showed that these ,@globulins are transferrins. The same transferrin differences have been described in Swedish cattle (GAHNE, RENDEL and VENGE 1960) and in Danish cattle ( H~JGAARD, MOUSTGAARD and M ~ L L E R 1960). Serum protein polymorphisms in several species have been reviewed by OGDEN (1961). Plasma protein polymorphisms in man have been reviewed by HARRIS (1961 ) . In these populations three alleles Tf“, TfD, and TfE, have been observed to control the synthesis of transferrins A, D and E (TfA, TfD and TfE) , respectively. Each transferrin migrates in starch gels as four discrete proteins (ASHTON 1959a). Two additional alleles (Tf” and TfF) have been observed in Zebu cattle but not in Jersey, Hereford or Shorthorn cattle ( ASHTON 1959a). Recent developments in starch gel electrophoresis techniques have enabled us to detect differences among individuals possessing the TfD allele ( KRISTJANSSON 1962). This report describes these differences and presents evidence which indicates that the former TfD allele is, in fact, two alleles which produce different transferrins which were indistinguishable using the original starch-gel electrophoresis procedures.

CSN1S1 Gene: Allele Frequency, and the Relationship with Milk Production Traits in Three Indigenous Cattle Breeds and Holstein
CSN1S1is one of the major genes encoding milk proteins of mammals. In this study we determined allele frequencies of CSN1S1-5` flanking region as well as exon 17 variants and their effects on milk traits in three indigenous cattle breeds Mazandarani, Golpaygani (Bos indicus) and Sarabi (Bos taurus) and Holstein cattle in Iran. CSN1S1*B variant was nearly fixed in Holstein but ranged from 0.40 t...
متن کاملPolymorphism of Prion Protein Gene (PRNP) in Iranian Holstein and Two Local Cattle Populations (Golpayegani and Sistani) of Iran
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is a fatal infectious neurodegenerative disease in cattle, characterized by the accumulation of an abnormal, proteaseresistant prion protein (PrPSc) in the brain. BSE is similar to scrapie in sheep and goats and Creuzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans. Susceptibility in cattle hasbeen shown to be under the influence of two polymorphic locations, which are...
متن کاملJoint Analysis of the DGAT1, OPN and PPARGC1A Genes Effects on Variation of Milk Production and Composition in Holstein Cattle Population
The aim of this study was to investigate effects of DGAT1, OPN and PPARGC1A candidate genes on milk production traits in Iranian Holstein cattle. Several papers have studied single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and their association with economic traits in dairy cows, but the combined effect of these genes has not been examined in Iranian Holstein cattle population. Blood samples were collect...
متن کاملA Research on Association between SCD1 and OLR1 Genes and Milk Production Traits in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cattle
The present study was carried out to investigate the association of C/T single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)in exon 5 of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) gene and A/C SNP in the 3' untranslated region of oxidized low density lipoprotein receptor 1 (OLR1)gene with milk production traits in Iranian Holstein dairy Cattle. The blood samples of 153 (for OLR1) and 308 (for SCD1) dairy cattle from thre...
متن کاملAssociation of PIT1 Gene with Milk Fat Percentage in Holstein Cattle
The pituitary-specific transcription factor (PIT1) gene is responsible for pituitary development and hormone secreting gene expression in mammals. PIT-1 is studied as a candidate genetic marker for growth, carcass and also for milk yield traits. In dairy farm animals, the principal goal of the selection is the improvement of milk yield and composition. The genes of milk proteins and hormones ar...
